May 21, 2013:  I will participate in a panel entitled “Consumers & Data Access ” at the California Health Care Foundation’s Healthy Communities Data Summit at the UCSF Mission Bay Campus at 1675 Owens Street in San Francisco.

May 31, 2013: I will return to emcee the 2nd Annual AARP Health Innovation@50+ LivePitch Event to be held May 31, 2013 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

June 4, 2013: I will participate as a panelist at the Xconomy Napa Summit, to be held at the Villagio Inn and Spa in Napa in Yountville, CA.

June 11, 2013 I will chair and participate as a speaker at the IBF Consumer Health & Wellness Summit to be held at the San Francisco Four Seasons Hotel.

June 19, 2013, I will participate on a panel about Digital Health at the Wilson Sonsini Goodrich Rosati (WSGR) Medical Device Conference taking place at 12:10-1:10 pm at the InterContinental Hotel at 888 Howard Street in San Francisco.

October 30, 2013: I will participate as a judge in the quest to name the most promising 2013 HealthTech company at the HealthTech Conference entitled Building a Business in the New HealthTech Ecosystem to be held at the Computer Museum, 1401 N Shoreline Blvd, Mountain View, CA.

Speaking Engagements, Past 2013:

February 12, 2013: I participated in a panel called Venture Capital: Point/Counterpoint at the 15th Annual IBF Corporate Venturing & Innovation Partnering Conference, held February 11-13 at the Island Hotel in Newport Beach, CA.

March 11, 2013:  I served as a judge in the SXSW Healthcare Competition in the SXSW Accelerator at the StartUp Village of South by Southwest.  The event was March 11 at the Hilton Austin Downtown and focused on companies with patient-centric health applications and technologies that connect patients, families, physicians, pharmacists, care providers (hospitals, clinics) and benefit providers – aka the care team – to share timely, relevant health data and drive better outcomes at affordable and sustainable cost levels.

April 11, 2013: I was the keynote speaker at the SoCalBio Women, Work & Wisdom (W3) Group Mixer:  The Changing Bioscience Venture Investing Landscape.  The event is organized by the Southern California Biomedical Council and will be held at The Saban Research Institute in Los Angeles from 4pm-7pm..

April 12, 2013:  I  participated on a panel on digital health, going mano a mano with Qualcomm Life’s Rick Valencia at the Rock Stars of Innovation Summit on April 11-12 at the San Diego Hard Rock Hotel.

April 18, 2013: I  participated in a panel on healthcare IT investing led by Don Ross of HealthTech Capital at the Angel Capital Association Summit, Hyatt Regency, San Francisco.

May 8, 2013: I moderated the IBF MedTech Investing Conference panel entitled “Coverage Decisions for Innovative Technologies from Private Payors and Healthcare Systems” in which panelists will discuss what they are willing to pay for and why.  The conference took place at the Graves Hotel in Minneapolis.

January 23, 2012:  I spoke about how personalized medicine intersects with healthcare IT and healthcare services at the Personalized Medicine World Conference (PMWC), Silicon Valley’s Computer History Museum in San Jose, CA January 31, 2011: I joined the panel discussion Balancing the Funding Crisis and Securing Investment for your Next Innovation at the EE Times Medical Electronics Summit at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

February 9, 2012IBF Health & Wellness Innovation Summit; I chaired the conference and interviewed Dr. Richard Migliori, Executive Vice President, Health Services UnitedHealth Group, Chief Healthcare Officer, UnitedHealth Group Alliances, about how payers are adopting and adapting to the consumer health movement. (Co-Located with IBF’s Corporate Venturing and Innovation Partnering Conference, February 6-8); The Island Hotel, Newport Beach, CA

February 24, 2012:  I participated in a panel entitled “Venture Capital: Positioning Healthcare Startups for Success” at the Business of Healthcare Conference sponsored by the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business.

February 28/March 1:  I keynoted the user meetings of HealthEdge and Click4Care, two of our excellent portfolio companies, at the Bellagio Hotel, Las Vegas.

March 9, 2012: I will give the keynote presentation at the SXSW Conference Interactive Start-Up Bootcamp Section focused on healthcare IT and social health.  My session was entitled “Social Health StartUp Bootcamp Kickoff Keynotes: Why Invest in Health Tech?”  Subsequently, former U.S. Chief Technology Officer Aneesh Chopra and I engaged in a “fireside chat” about current opportunities in healthcare IT.

May 9, 2012: I participated on a panel entitled “Where are Medtech VC’s Investing?” at the IBF Medtech Investing Conference at the Graves Hotel, Minneapolis, MN

May 15, 2012: I participated on the panel entitled Trailblazing Women Driving Innovation at the Professional Business Women of California Annual Conference in San Francisco.

June 1, 2012: I participated as a speaker about investing in healthcare IT at the Fenwick & West Investor Summit held at Silicon Valley Center – 801 California Street – Mountain View

June 15, 2012:  I participated in a fireside chat style interview with Don Jones, Vice President, Global Strategy and Market Development Qualcomm Life at the Digital Health Summer Summit in San Diego, CA held at the Omni Hotel San Diego

July 20, 2012:  I participated on an investor panel at the 10th Annual Healthcare Unbound Conference in San Francisco. The panel covered investor views on connected health, mhealth, social media and remote monitoring.   Panelists included Jay Srini, SCS Ventures; Missy Krasner, Morgenthaler Ventures, among others.

September 21, 2012: I was emcee at the AARP Health Innovaction@50+ Live Pitch event at the AARP Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Held at the New Orleans Convention Center, this premier showcase featur exciting companies in the health technology and innovation sector that serve the needs and wants of Americans 50 and older, as well as numerous investors in this sector.  In addition to me, the judging panel included Andy Donner of Physic Ventures, Brandon Hull of Cardinal Partners and Clayton Lewis of Maveron.  See a wrap-up article HERE.

October 10, 2012: I participated as an investor judge in the Health IT Startup Showcase at the DC-to-VC Event held Oct 10th in San Francisco, the last day of the Health 2.0 conference, at the SF Hilton in Union Square.  The Health IT Startup Showcase is a nationwide contest to find the best venture backable startup ideas in health IT.  Applications and other information can be found at HERE.

October 11, 2012, I moderated the Pacific Business Group on Health’s Innovation Day panel on cardiac innovations.  The panel included an employer perspective from WalMart and then a back and forth discussion between the employer position on what should be covered and presentations from companies CardioDx, Azumio, HeartFlow, and AliveCor.    The event was held at the Four Seasons San Francisco.

October 17, 2012, I was a panelist at the IN3 Medical Device 360 Summit meeting on a panel entitled Raising Venture Capital: The Best of Times or the Worst of Times.  Co-panelists included David Cassak and Tom Salemi of In Vivo, Startup, Medtech Insight and The Gray Sheet as well as a number of medtech VCs.  The IN3 Medical Device 360 Summit was held October 15-17 at the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins in San Francisco.

December 5, 2012:  I participated in a panel entitled “Funding and resources for medical device innovation” at the BIOMed Device Conference  held at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, CA.

December 13, 2012, I was honored to participate in Health and Technology 2012: Opportunities in Transformation in Moscow, Russia. This comprehensive conference was sponsored by Skolkovo Foundation (Moscow, Russia), Life Sciences Angel Network (NYC) and Viamedix (Moscow, Russia) and Health 2.0 Conference.

    This is a great blog, and I am happy to see venture capital people getting involved in the alternative medicine filed. It always seemsto me like this area is does not get much VC attention.
